The Fourth of July brings memories of family fun, hot grills and cold drinks. When looking for your Independence Day refreshments, try these colorful favorites.

For most people, Independence Day gives them a sense of pride, happiness and an urge for the yummy concoctions that come with picnics and family reunions. Young or old, the fizzy coldness of the Fourth of July drink will make anyone smile. For the adults, the possibilities range from beer to mixed drinks, and red to white to blue, with names to match the patriotic holiday.

The Red, White and Blue

Named for our national colors, this shot also combines three components that layer it to be exactly what it says: red, white and blue.

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 oz. Blue Curacoa
  • 1/3 oz. Grenadine
  • 1/3 oz. Peach Schnapps

Be sure to carefully layer the ingredients to give the drink it's tri-color look.

Pour the grenadine into a shot glass. Float the peach schnapps on top of the grenadine. Finally, layer the Blue Curacao on top of the peach schnapps. Serve.

A variation on this recipe, called the Stars and Stripes, replaces the peach schnapps with cream.

Born on the Fourth of July

Similar to the Red, White and Blue, this cocktail also combines three ingredients to form a tasty summer drink. Served in a cordial glass, the drink is ideal for sipping during the late evening fireworks.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 oz. Blue Curacoa
  • 1 1/2 oz. Sloe Gin
  • 2 oz. Cream

Pour Blue Curacoa on the bottom of the ice filled cordial glass. Then layer both the sloe gin and cream on top. The end result should show cream shooting through the other layers like a firework.

Firepop Bombs

A shot for the young at heart, this shooter should look like a firecracker popsicle if done correctly. Be careful, don't get brain freeze!

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz. Cherry Dr. McGillicuddy
  • 1 oz. Vanilla Dr. McGillicuddy
  • 1 oz. Blueberry Energy Drink (must be blue in color)

Pour Cherry Dr. McGillicuddy into a plastic cup. Slowly float Vanilla Dr. McGillicuddy and blueberry energy drink on top. Serve.

FireCracker

For those of you that like a drink with a little more tradition, the firecracker combines more familiar ingredients to form a refreshing holiday cocktail.

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz. Vodka
  • 2 oz. Dark Rum
  • 1/2 oz. Sloe Gin
  • Orange Juice

Pour vodka, rum, and sloe gin into a rocks glass with ice. Fill to the top with orange juice.

Summer Hummer

A summer favorite for many, this cocktail combines the refreshment and fun of the sunny months. The lime flavors can bring back memories of summers past, with a little more of a kick than any children's drink.

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz. Sour Mix
  • 2 oz. 7-up
  • 1 oz. Bacardi Limon
  • 1 oz. Lemon Juice

Combine ingredients into a cordial glass. Serve on ice.

When enjoying the Fourth of July festivities in your area, please drink responsibly.

Another good one is the RocketPop Martini.
Shake equal parts Raspberry vodka(Stoli), Blue Curaco, Sour and Sprite in a shaker. Pour into a martini glass and then slowly add grenadine so it sinks to the bottom. It tastes like the Red/White/Blue popsicle! Yummy Yummy!!
