If you're looking for a vodka drink which mixes both the tangy and the tart, then you've found your libation. Here's how to make it.

Creating a signature drink for a dinner party or event is a great way to keep the evening memorable and also cut down on the cost of alcohol since most people will be drinking a similar beverage. The Vodka Sling can be made a few different ways, but the important thing is that there is a mixture of tangy and tart with your ingredients. Here are two popular ways to make a Vodka Sling.

The Classic Vodka SlingYou will need:

  • 4 Parts Vodka
  • 1 Part Benedictine
  • 1 Part Cherry Brandy
  • Juice of 1 Lemon
  • Dash of Angostura Bitters
  • Dash of Orange Bitters
  • Club Soda
  • Orange Slices

Mixing the Classic Vodka Sling:

  1. Combine the Vodka, Benedictine, Cherry Brandy, Lemon Juice, Angostura Bitters and Orange Bitters into a shaker and fill with ice.
  2. Shake vigorously for 30 seconds to a minute.
  3. Strain into a martini glass.
  4. Add a healthy dash of club soda.
  5. Garnish with an orange slice and serve to your guests.

The Old School Vodka Sling

You will need:

  • 4 Parts Vodka
  • 1 Part Lemon Juice
  • 1 Spoonful of Powdered Sugar
  • Club Soda
  • Ice
  • Martini Shaker
  • Highball Glass

Mixing the Old School Vodka Sling:

  1. Combine the Vodka, Lemon Juice, Powdered Sugar and Ice into your Martini Shaker.
  2. Shake well for about a minute.
  3. Fill a highball glass with ice.
  4. Strain the drink into your highball glass over the ice.
  5. Add a splash of Club Soda and your Vodka Sling is ready to serve.

An Alternate VersionIf you are out of powdered sugar, substitute regular sugar or a squirt of honey into the drink before shaking.

Pairing the Drink

Because the Vodka Sling celebrates the tangy as well as the tart, it is best served at a Summer event when the grill is fired up. The citrus in the drink will refresh your guests while the flavor will pair well with barbecued chicken, beef and other meats.

Staying Ahead of the Curve

If you're hosting a dinner party or gathering in your home, the Vodka Sling is a great drink to make ahead of time in a pitcher. Simply raise the quantities of the recipe to suite your needs and mix ahead of time. Then when your guests arrive, pour the Vodka Sling into the appropriate glasses, add a dash of Club Soda, garnish with an orange slice and serve. Your guests will be refreshed quickly, and you'll have more time to enjoy your own party so you don't end up feeling like a drink jockey all night long.

Finding Variations of the Vodka Sling

While these are just a couple of the most common recipes to make a Vodka Sling, sites such as BarBug and Vodka-Drinks have will multiple variations.
