Move over cosmos. In an effort to promote the upcoming Sex and the City movie, there are four new character-based cocktails sure to be all the rage.

The long-anticipated Sex and the City movie doesn't hit theaters in the US until May 30, 2008 (May 28th in the UK), but that's not stopping their PR people from coming up with a fun and feminine way to whet the appetities of their target audience, in more ways than one.

Summer blockbusters were once hyped with million-dollar trailers and word-of-mouth. However promoting a film now requires the studios to be creative and dig deep for a way to seamlessly merge product endorsements with the movie du jour.

Skky Vodka, Houlihan's restaurant and of course HBO films and New Line Cinema, all attached to the Sex and the City film, have joined forces to introduce four distinct cocktails representing each of the four characters "who defined cocktail culture for an entire generation." (Sex and The City Movie Press Kit) The drinks are currently available at US Houlihan's restaurants, but the recipes are provided below for your convenience.

Gone are the days when our four favorite ladies of Manhattan indulged in pretty pink cosmos. The drinks of choice now for Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte are all inspired by each of the ladies' trademark traits and individuality. So while you wait for the movie, why not kick off your Manolos, grab the girls and indulge in one of what are sure to be the cocktails of the summer? Just be careful not to get Carried away!

The Carrie Drink

2 ounces Skyy vodka

1 ounce X-Rated Fusion Liqueur

2 ounces cranberry juice

3/4 ounce sparkling apple cider

Shake Skyy, X-Rated and cranberry with ice and strain into chilled martini glass. Top with cider and garnish with a thin apple slice.

The Samantha Drink

2 1/2 ounces Skyy vodka

1 1/2 ounces Cabo Wabo Anejo tequila

1 ounce simple syrup

1 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice

Shake with ice and strain into chilled martini glass. Rim glass with mixture of salt and small amount of white pepper. No garnish.

The Miranda Drink

2 ounces Skyy vodka

3/4 ounce Campari

2 ounces pomegranate juice

1 ounce Triple Sec

Squeeze of lemon

Shake with ice and strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a lemon wheel.

The Charlotte Drink

2 ounces Skyy vodka

2 ounces pink lemonade

1 ounces Triple Sec

1/2 ounce Midori Melon liqueur

Shake with ice and strain into chilled martini glass. Garnish with an edible flower.

In addition, there is also a shot for everyone's favorite Sex and the City man, the elusive Mr. Big.

Only time will tell if the movie is a summer blockbuster, but with the amount of promoting under its belt, the film is already off to a encouraging start.
