Virgin Drinks

Elegant Non-Alcoholic Cocktails That Are Sure to Impress

Mar 14, 2009 Annie Suh

Parties don't have to be dull when alcohol is not involved. These virgin drinks will add pizazz and satisfy taste buds with a variety of garnishes and ice molds.

Non-alcoholic cocktails are sometimes called virgin drinks or mocktails, with the most popular being the Shirley Temple. Having a long list of non-alcoholic drinks to choose from, one can turn any party into a lively event by dressing them up a little. The idea is to imitate the real thing by its presentation.

Materials and Ingredients Needed

  • Champagne flutes, martini glasses
  • Cocktail picks, swizzle sticks, or bamboo skewers
  • A variety of berries, limes, lemons, pineapple slices or wedges, maraschino cherries
  • Martini olives
  • Mint leaves
  • Sparkling water, soda, juice
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Grenadine syrup
  • Coarse sugar and salt

Virgin drinks are easy to make. You can adjust the measurements to make the mix tangier, sweeter or less sweet so that it suits your taste. Don't be afraid of experimenting; it's the fun part that allows bartenders or mixologists to make their specialty cocktails.

Ice Cube Substitutes

To prevent drinks from getting watered down, consider freezing juice or soda instead of water. To add some flair, you may want to freeze them with small fruits like cranberries. As an alternative to the traditional ice cubes, use a different shape. Ice trays can be found in ball shapes, kebob shapes, as well as stick shapes. You can also use jello ring molds to make ice rings.

Preparing to Serve Your Non-Alcoholic Cocktails

  1. Wet the rim of your martini glasses with a lime wedge. Then upturn the glass and dip it into a plate of coarse sugar or salt and sugar mix.
  2. Mix your drinks in a cocktail shaker or substitute and pour it into the glass.
  3. Pour in ice cubes if desired.
  4. Pick a suitable garnish to match your drink. Lemon rind loops, fruit slices and maraschino cherries always work well.
  5. Serve.

Taste is important, but presentation is the key to setting the mood for a fun and entertaining party without alcohol. To find more recipes for virgin drinks, visit DrinksMixer.com or AllRecipes.com.
